1. Brookfield District Museum
Now opening regularly on the first Sunday of each month (except January)
from 2.00-4.00pm.
The Museum, which is located in the Brookfield Showgrounds, was officially opened
on 3 December 2004 by Councillor Margaret de Wit. The Brookfield Show Society
would appreciate receiving any type of memorabilia (relevant to Brookfield)
to house in the Museum - photos, maps, newspaper cuttings, artifacts, family
history - in fact, any item that is of an historical nature reflecting the growth
of Brookfield over the past 150 years. Please phone Judith Brough on 0411 117
971 if you can provide any material or are willing to assist with the ongoing
work of the Museum.
2. Pacey Road
2003 marked the 125th birthday of Pacey Road, Upper Brookfield. A BBQ was held
on Saturday 8 November 2003 at the Upper Brookfield Community Hall to celebrate
the gazettal of Pacey Road in 1878 and to officially launch the CD containing
a photographic history of Upper Brookfield. This road was named in honour of
Patrick Pacey who at that time had acquired the freehold title to two square
miles - the largest single land holding in Upper Brookfield. A number of Pacey
descendants were warmly welcomed at the BBQ.

In addition, a splendid pastel painting (see copy below) entitled Crossing Pacey Road by Lloyd Hemming (retail value $400.00) was raffled and won by Bernie Campbell, a Pacey descendant. The proceeds - $1,030 - have been used to assist in the cost of conserving the celebrated Patrick Pacey's Waistcoat which is 150 years old. Patrick Pacey (a Roman Catholic) married Ann Bloxsom (a protestant) in 1854. Patrick's father was not pleased that his son was marrying a protestant and displayed his anger by throwing a tailor's iron at his son, breaking his nose. Later, he repented and made Patrick a waistcoat for his wedding. This is the actual waistcoat worn by Patrick Pacey that has been conserved using the money from the raffle, donations totalling $815.00 from Pacey descendants and the remainder generously paid for by the Brookfield Show Society.
The "conserved" waistcoat is on display in the Brookfield District Museum located at the Brookfield Showgrounds.
