About Us

The Brookfield History Group was formed in 2002 by a small group of local residents led by Brendan Ryan. The aim of the Group is to preserve and promote the history of the Brookfield area originally known in the mid-nineteenth century as the Moggill Creek settlement. In modern terms, the Group's area of interest is the whole Moggill Creek catchment.

Some members of the Group are engaged in specific projects such as the History of the Brookfield Cricket Club, Family History and Environmental changes in the area. Others, from all walks of life, love the area and enjoy sharing their experiences of living in this idyllic part of Brisbane.

The Group's first project, funded under the Commonwealth Government's Federation Community Projects Program, enabled the collection of all original land title deeds together with many of those of subsequent landowners in the Upper Brookfield area. On Saturday 16 March 2002, Mr Michael Johnson MP, Federal Member for Ryan, officially launched the Brookfield Local History Display. A repository cabinet was built to house historical material collected by the Group. After many hours of research, all original portions in the Statistical Collectors District of Upper Brookfield have been identified and these maps are located in this cabinet.

The second project involved producing a CD Rom of a photographic history of Upper Brookfield. This was funded by a $3,000 grant from the Brisbane City Council. To obtain resources for this, a very successful event was held on Saturday 22 February 2003 when over 200 people visited the Upper Brookfield Hall to share their photographs and memories of past times in the Upper Brookfield area. Many of these photographs have been used in the production of our first CD
